Rebel without a cause
"I wish I was a punk rocker, with flowers in my hair."
As much as I loathe that song, those lyrics ring true. Rebellion is part of growing up, and our generation has nothing to rebel against. No cause to fight for.
Parents have become laid back and understanding, the music industry has turned politically driven music into a cash cow, consumerism has everyone content to sit at home and play with their gadgets (myself included, I write this very post from my favorite gadget (and it's American spellcheck is grinding my gears)).
Now I'm not saying I think we should all be out tipping cars and throwing molotovs, but having something to protest unites people better than having something to celebrate. And it makes life so much more interesting. You can live your life obedient and well behaved, but what stories are you going to tell your kids? Or your grandkids.
So with nothing to rise up and fight against we must take it upon ourselves to make a statement. Go out fuck shit up. Colour in the barcodes on all the food in IGA. Run a pirate flag up the flagpole at your uni. Go to work drunk. Paint your own lines in the nearest carpark.
As for me, I've found street art. Watch out for my stencils around town.

Long time no speak
It's been a while since I've posted anything, but I haven't really much to say. Ok that's a lie, I've just been too lazy to say it. But I will rectify this soon.
Also, I've finally found a good blogging app for my phone so expect a lit of random posts that pop into my head while I'm out and about.

"Do you feel cold and lost in desperation?
You build up hope but failure's all you've known.
Remember all the sadness and frustration,
and let it go. Let it go."

The Royal We
"When it's all over and you open your eyes, you'll see the world turned on it's side, and you'll be lying by a note on the floor signed;
The Royal We"
I no longer want to be at uni. The quote "to study something is to kill it" seems apt at this stage. I don't know if it's just the units I have this semester, or the other crap that's going on in my head or my body building up a resistance to my meds but I no longer have any motivation towards my course. My passion for design is untouched, I just find myself wishing I could fast forward to after I've got my degree. Or get a job without one.
I get no enjoyment out of anything I have to do for my assignments, and they all seem like a waste of time. I want to be doing design for my own enjoyment or for financial gain, not for marks and results.
I still see the value in my course, I just think that I've learnt enough now that I'd benefit more by learning in a work environment. I looked at TAFE options to see if that would be any better, and I think it would, but it would also mean another 3 years of study before I could start work proper.
I'll stick it out for the rest of the semester, obviously, but I think I'm going to have to do a lot of soul searching during the holidays.

Meant to Live
It's amazing how a conversation with the person you love can turn your whole day around.
A simple talk, not anything deep or meaningful, just chatting, can put you on a high after spending the day on the verge of a breakdown. That makes me smile.
Love is beautiful.

Don't Take What's Mine
Everything is fragile.
Like a chandelier hanging from a spiderweb.
One bad gust of wind and the world comes crashing down around my head.
No indication, nor catalyst.
Just a sinking feeling,
somewhat akin to dread.
A premonition, if you will, of dark times ahead.
Call it paranoia if you must.
In all likely hood nothing will come of this,
life will continue on the same blissful way it has been.
Nevertheless, these feelings exist and demand to be noticed.
"Dwell on us" they shout.
"Ignore positivity, think of all that could go wrong.
All that you could lose".
Bastards.

Thou shalt not worship false idols
Everyone has an idol or a hero, or something of the sort. Someone they look up too and are inspired by. A role model I guess. And we've all heard the stories about "bad role models". Celebrities with legions of obsessed youth that follow every drug-fuelled drunken move they make. But what about the good role models? What happens when you discover that the person you look up too isn't as angelic as they appear?
This happened several months ago but I've been looking for something to blog about and this seemed like an interesting topic.
Stephen Christian is the lead singer/songwriter from American band anberlin. His music, lyrics and views on love and religion mirror my own and he has a way with words that gives me goosebumps. In short, I'd call him my 'idol' (I have many people that I look up to but if I had to pick just one it would be him).
His battles with God while growing up are something we have in common, and it's comforting to know that others have gone through things like that and come out as amazing and inspiring people. Most of this is irrelevant though, what's relevant is that from the outside he appears to be a well-mannered Christian. Intelligent, interesting and artistically genius.
But step into his head and you discover almost every relationship he's been in has overlapped with the previous one. Put simply, he's cheated on a lot of girlfriends over the years.
Cheating on someone, in my books, is the worst possible thing you can do. The lowest of the lows. And here I find that one the people I respect above all others is also one of the people I hate above all others. Hence my question, what do you do when your idol becomes your enemy?
For me it wasn't actually as devastating as you might think. Sure I was shocked, and hugely disappointed. But it didn't take me long to realise that I can't expect anyone to be perfect. Reading through the rest of the post helped as well, as he admits his mistakes and expresses his remorse. Hardly excuses the act but it does mean something.
There's not really a point to this blog, it's just something I've been thinking about. If you've come here looking for some kind of wisdom I guess what I'm trying to say is, be inspired by people and look up to people, but don't follow them, and never believe that they are without flaws. And don't despair when you discover the dark side to your heroes. They are after all, only human.

I Still Remember
Stuck awake while the undead feed, I play guitar 'til my fingers bleed
The notes and chords, the sting of strings
Help me to mull over things
The rhythm pumping through my veins
soothes my soul as night-time wanes
Our time apart has me feeling blue
So I write a poem just for you
"Dear love" it says "I cannot see, the reasons you're avoiding me"
Then rambles on for ten more lines
And ends up being a waste of time
For how can this bring back the bliss, that once accompanied a kiss
From lips so soft and sweet and perfect
The taste of which make waking worth it
I know I've got this out of sorts
My bitter mind does too much thought
But something's keeping us apart
And cutting through my wasted heart
The pills wear off, the dam wall blows and before too long there's tears a-flow
My heaving breath prolongs my death AND PRETTY SOON THERE'S NOTHING LEFT
BUT A WASTED SMILE AND THOUGHTS SO VILE
A MURDERER WHO STANDS ON TRIAL
WOULD SHAKE HIS HEAD IN SHOCK TO SEE THE MONSTER THAT RESIDES IN ME
But no, I've taken this too far
I've blown it out beyond the stars
There's nothing wrong, I'm over-tired. Caffeine problem's got me wired
I know that soon your smile I'll see
From gloomy thoughts I'll soon be free
I trust you with my beating heart and cannot wait for life to start
So now to rest my weary head
And banish this unfounded dread
I fill my mind with hope and dreams and seal it tightly at the seams
My love for you is beating strong
And quick do I admit my wrongs
To sleep I go, with no more fear
For soon I know I'll have you

The Weight of the World
After listening to a few minutes of Hack earlier today, where they discussed depression and other similar ailments, I feel like posting my views on the topic in an attempt to show that not all sufferers of this "mental disability" are as thick as two short planks.
What the general public fails to understand, as well as the hosts of current affair radio shows it seems, is that people who are too embarrassed or ashamed to talk about their depression with their family or friends are most often just idiots who've had a bad day and got it into their heads that there's something wrong with them.
Depression is not shameful. Nor is it embarrassing. Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain and nothing more. Depression is caused by lack of serotonin, not getting dumped, losing someone close to you, getting fired etc. That's grief, sadness, loneliness, melancholy and so on. Those feelings are all symptoms of depression for sure, but they're still caused by your brain not an outside event.
Now obviously I'm no expert, but being someone who suffers from depression and has sought professional help for it I feel I can speak without fear of any major conflict. I'm so tired of hearing about people's huge battles with depression and how it's such a struggle to overcome. IT'S NOT! Yes, some people have a really hard time dealing with it, people feel so terrible that they want to kill themselves, and some of them actually do it. But you have to actually let yourself get to that point. If you recognise it for what it is and do something about it then depression is as easy to deal with as a common cold.
There's only two steps for God's sake. Long term, you take medication to fix the chemical problems in your brain that cause it, short term you FUCKING TALK ABOUT IT TO SOMEONE. If you keep it all to yourself you're an idiot and deserve to feel unhappy. You don't even have to talk to someone you know, anyone who'll listen will do. I've told my doctor about this blog and why I started it and he said it's the best thing I could have done to help. Talking about how you feel get's everything off your chest and makes you feel like you have someone by your side to help, even if they don't say anything.
I'm not in any way trying to make light of depression, it's a serious problem and professional help should be sought as soon as possible, I'm just pissed off that it seems to be the latest "fashion" when it comes to health problems.

Go steady with me, I know it turns you off when I get talkin' like a teen
Last night I couldn't sleep. I lay there for hours staring at the roof and running around my head. I feel like I'm smothering the person I care about most and it's really bugging me.
I've said before that I'm a very needy person. I'm ridiculously clingy and it causes me to text a lot (seriously, a lot). If we're not holding hands while walking around together I feel awkward. If I don't kiss her for more than an hour when we're hanging out I get sad. The problem is that the more I think about how smothering I am the worse I feel about, and the more inclined I am to apologise. That was what kept me awake last night, I kept thinking and thinking about it and that just made me want to send more text messages apologising for all my recent spam, which is the exact opposite of what I'm trying to do.
I don't really think it's that big of a deal and she's never complained about it but sometimes you can just tell when someone needs some space. Apparently there is too much of a good thing, and just because I've never witnessed it doesn't mean others haven't. I know I need to back off a little but it's a hard thing to do when the opposite is built into your DNA.
I am trying though, but it's hard to find a balance. What if I back off too much and she thinks I'm losing interest? As you can see it doesn't take much to get my paranoia involved too. What I really need to do is stop worrying about it and just let things happen, but that's what I've been doing and how I ended up feeling like I'm being smothering. Some might suggest more communication would solve all this but what else is there to say? I just can't help it, I think about her constantly and that makes me want to talk to her. It'd help if I wasn't so needy for replies. Most of the time I don't expect a response, unless I've asked a question, but I still get disappointed when I don't get one.
I need to suck it up and stop complaining. I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life, because of the amazing relationship I have with an incredible woman. She knows how I feel, I know how she feels, I don't need to contact her every minute to tell her things she already knows. Every now and then is more than enough.
I should probably get back to my uni work now.

I just want back in your head
Soooo last weekend me and Ash headed down to Bunbury for Groovin' the Moo festival. Tickets and accommodation were my birthday present to her back in March and now the day had finally arrived. We were rather excited.

We set off on Friday afternoon after I'd picked her up from work. I'd managed to score dad's car for the trip so I was looking forward to the drive. We amused ourselves with my trusty iPod, newly loaded with a GTM playlist, and of course the ever present camera. Many awesome (and possibly dangerous) photos were taken. Along the way we stopped for some Coat of Arms pie and met some emus.

The weather was cloudy but pleasant and when we arrived in Bunbury we were treated to an awesome display of 'God's fingers'. We managed to find the place we were staying and checked in before unloading the car. A walk along the beach followed but we were soon in need of feeding so we went back to the car and drove off in search of the cafe strip.

Parking was free (take a hint Freo) and choice was plentiful but we eventually settled on a nice looking cafe called Cafe Bean and I treated Ash to a birthday dinner. We washed our meals down with the best tasting coffee I have ever had. Seriously, I'm thinking about moving to Bunbury just so I can frequent that cafe. Went exploring in the car after dinner so that we'd know where the venue was the next day. Wasn't too hard to find and I didn't get lost which is cool.

Went back to the room after that and planned to go for a night-time swim. We even got all the way down to the water in our bathers but it was pitch black, rather choppy, and freezing cold so we chickened out. Instead it was back to the room for a hot shower, then into bed to enjoy Masterchef :P

Woke bright and early and headed into Cafe Bean again for breakfast and coffee. Grabbed some cash from a nearby ATM before heading to the festival (via the room because Ash forgot her jacket). Found parking at the shopping centre and made the trek across the field to the venue gates. There was zero queue so getting in was a breeze. A random guy gave us GTM headbands and someone else gave us programs, then we went exploring.

Soon enough we ended up in the main stage bar, where Ash's work friend gave us free drinks. We spent most of the morning wandering from stage to stage looking for a party but the crowds were pretty dead. Voltaire were pretty cool and Harlequin League were average as always but at least their audience as a bit more Lively. Grabbed lunch to escape the mindless drone of Muph and Plutonic and bled from the ears during all but one Kisschasy song. Then it was finally time for some fun.

Lisa Mitchell was amazing once again but clearly tired after not having slept for a few days. The sound engineer was clearly drunk because there was way too much bass but her set was good, she was friendly and funny, and the crowd was really into it.

British India were next and failed to impress but were far from the worst band of the day. Slaughtering Nirvana's Lithium lost them some major points though. Miami Horror on the other hand were great fun, and the singer climbed up the side of the stage Faker style.

We had no idea who Spoon were so we went looking for some dinner before getting a sport for Tegan and Sara. They were by far the highlight of the day, and probably the best band I've seen this year so far. There set was great, the sound was great and their onstage banter was amusing and entertaining.

Grinspoon put on a good show but the setlist could have done with a few more old songs and a few less new ones.

Luke Steele needs to bury this Empire of the Sun thing. Bury it so deep no-one even remembers it existed. He looked like a complete douche. Vampire Weekend did a good job of healing our ears and eyes after he'd finally left the stage. They were fun and energetic but did get a bit boring for the second half of the set. We bailed after Ash had heard all the songs she wanted to and went to get a spot for Silverchair.

Daniel Johns has snapped. He's quite loopy now days and his music is getting weirder and weirder. But he was funny, quite possibly drunk, and the old songs they played were awesome. Especially enjoyed Israel's Son, Anna's Song and Freak. The latter in particular as they stopped halfway through to break up a fight in the moshpit, and when one of the guys tried to argue Johns replied with "Oi nah we're in the middle of a song cunt." Hilarious.

Walking back to the car was fucking freezing but we did make it and cranked the heat way up. Getting out was as easy as getting in, no traffic jams or anything. Got back to the room and pretty much went straight to bed, we were both pretty knackered.

Took it easy the next morning. Packed up the car and checked out a bit after 10 before heading back to my favourite cafe for breakfast and one last coffee. Spent the day exploring Bunbury and taking tourist photos. We went to the lighthouse and the lookout tower, then strolled around the boardwalk.

Watched a Taffy demonstration while there but it was a bit long-winded and we eventually got bored. Went next door to Dome and had an awesome salad for lunch before hopping back in the car. Drove around looking for cool places to take polaroid pictures, then went for a nice walk along the beach again. It was pretty cold and windy though so when our feet were nice and numb we hopped back in the car and started heading for home.

Stopped at the pie place again, this time just for a drink, then Ash wanted to drive the awesome car so i hopped in the passenger seat and relaxed (and played with the music). Not so many photos taken on the way back but we were pretty knackered.

Overall I can honestly say it was the best weekend of my life. Had an amazing time with and amazing person and now I'm super excited for Rotto in July.

Congratulations!
Well done Ash, you've successfully completed my scavenger hunt and found your way to my blog. Not much a prize I know but I'll give you something better next time I see you.
I know I said I wanted to go through it with you, and I still do, but I figured I may as well show you now and then when we do read it together you'll be able to ask questions or something. I dunno, I just wanted to make a scavenger hunt :P
Anywhoo the posts I was talking about are the early ones, mainly the first one. I've told you most of what's in it already through various conversations but this'll be the whole story. I just want to emphasise that I'm in no way trying to make you feel guilty, and I don't hold any grudge against you, and I agree that it turned out to be a positive. You should also know that it's a bit of an exaggeration (I was feeling pretty shit and I tend to be melodramatic when I'm like that), well everything except the bit about anberlin. Also, you were NOT the sole cause of my depression. Losing you just made it harder to deal with.
So, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you enjoy the other posts as well should you choose to read them.
I can't wait to see you on Thursday.
I love you so very much X

So, I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you enjoy the other posts as well should you choose to read them.
I can't wait to see you on Thursday.
I love you so very much X

Dear you, tonight let's get ahead of ourselves
When I started this blog it was intended to be a place for me to vent about what's going on in my life/head. Most people tend to associate "venting" with the expulsion of negativity, but I believe that better falls under "ranting". Venting does not always have to be negative, as I am about to demonstrate.
I've just had the second amazing weekend in a row, and currently have so many things to look forward to that it literally blows my mind. For the last couple of days I've been in such a good mood that I could probably bring about world peace if I put my mind to it. My life right now, is so. Fucking. Awesome.
I'm currently ridiculously excited for Groovin' the Moo festival in Bunbury, which is now ten days away. Three days with Ash, as well as a kick ass festival with a killer line-up. Bliss. Also, today I spent several hours trying to get through to Rottnest. I did eventually, and booked us 4 nights in July. Now we're just trying to get our stingy friends to come with, but I'm really looking forward to it.
But the main source of my bubblyness is how much time I've been spending with Ash, and how much time we're still going to be spending together. Last year uni kept getting in the way an I'd be lucky to see her twice a week, now I see her almost every day and I fucking love it.
When I started this blog I expected it to be mostly ranting. I can't even express how glad I am it's not.

Apples and Oranges
I'm fat. Figuratively, not literally. So in addition to exercising twice a week I'm also going on diet.
Consumption of the following has been banned completely:
1. Soft drinks (including energy drinks like V etc)
2. Anything with guarana in it
3. Packet noodles
Consumption of the following will be drastically cut down:
1. Chocolate (and other lollies)
2. KFC
3. Snack food, eg. chips, biscuits
4. Uni food
5. Big, gigantic pieces of red meat served with chips
6. Anything fried
Consumption of the following will be somewhat reduced:
1. Flavoured milk
2. Iced Tea
3. Milo
As you can see most of that shit is drinks. I don't tend to eat much apart from breakfast and dinner. Still working on the list and obviously I need to make a list of things I'm going to increase consumption of. But that's where it stands at the moment.

Never Trust a Hippy
Sooooo last weekend I completely sold out on all my anti-hippy traditions and went to Fairbridge Festival in... er, Fairbridge.
It was awesome! It's like an indy version of Southbound but less of a trek to get to.

We had a bigger group this time so we went in two cars, but I was one of the designated drivers. I like driving. Left my place ridiculously early and picked Ash up before heading down the freeway to Julia's farm to meet up with her, Anna and Fliz. Played tetris to get all the stuff packed in 'cause we both had small cars, then finally we were off. Blink-182 was the music of choice, a last bit of punk before an entire weekend of folk music.

It was an enjoyable drive, and I'd had two cans of V so it went pretty quickly. We attempted to play charades with the mob in the other car but they were too dim to pick up on it. Had a bit of a scare when we got to the village. An unexpected security check had us sweating over the alcohol hidden in the bags. Our fear was unwarranted though, the hired bouncers just asked us if we had any on us and took a brief look in the eski. Either it was too early for them to check properly or they just couldn't be bothered. Welcome to Fairbridge...

We were meant to be camping in the field, even though we were all volunteering, since we bought field tickets but we scammed our way into the volunteer campsite which is closer and quieter. Managed to get to MASSIVE 12 person tent (only 200 bucks from Kmart. Win!) up. It was bloody hot though so we didn't stick around long and went exploring. Checked in at volunteer HQ to get our shirts etc and then went looking for something to do. Nothing really started til 4ish so we ended up helping in the Youthopia area for a bit.

I'm realising now that I should have written this ages ago. My memory's faded rather a lot but I'll do my best.

We just kinda drifted around for most of the arvo until half the group drifted off to various volunteer shifts. I took some photos of the kids making lanterns for the parade (I should probably mention that I was a volunteer photographer, I don't just randomly take photos of kids).

That night we decided to party. Didn't really drink much since all we had was goon and vodka but we did go dancing. Bushdancing. Usually that's the last thing you'd catch me doing but it was a hell of a lot of fun, and a pretty epic workout. Saw some pretty good artists too. Nathan Kaye is an awesome singer/slide guitarist/didgeridoo player/beatboxer who's also really funny. After him we watched Toby, who has an amazing voice. Then we attempted to stay up waiting for Dave Mann but me and Ash were knackered so we called it a night.

Saturday started early but we didn't really do anything til mid-morning. We also dressed up as pirates. It was awesome! First artist we saw was Simon Kelly who was awesome, then we watched Nathan Kaye again. I got lumped with a video camera after that which was annoying but I just did ten minutes of filming and then bailed. We met up with Isabelle and Alex who were up just for the day. Grabbed some lunch and killed time until Ballpoint Penguins. They were hilarious, 2 girls and a guy singing parody songs in 3 part harmony. Also so the Chaplin from my old high school, Andrew Winton. He's a legend, and his brother is Tim Winton. Can't really remember the next few hours but I think we just browsed the market stalls. I do remember getting our faces painted 'cause Anna was working there.

Julia went to another shift at about 6 and Isabelle, Alex and Fliz were MIA so me and Ash just wondered around for a bit, had some dinner and then went to watch the lantern parade which I had to photograph. Also watched a guy from Chile called Nano Stern. He was pretty cool. Looked in on Eddi Reader after picking up Julia but weren't impressed so we headed for the dance tent and rocked out to the Velvet Playboys for a while. Watched a full set from Simon Kelly over at Youthopia and had a look at the Barons of Tang but hit the sack after that.

Sunday was nothing amazing. Ash was meant to work at the Dance Tent in the morning but ended up in the Loft (an open mic stage) instead. I dropped her there then trolled through the markets for a while. Everyone else had shifts as well so I just amused myself. Dropped in to visit Ash around mid morning and saw an awesome singer called Lucy Wise. Check her out, amazing voice.

Finally got around to seeing Dave Mann after lunch which was good. Julia went off to work for a bit and me and Ash amused ourselves. She was meant to work at 5 but the guy let her off so we cashed in our hours for ticket refunds and went back to the tent to start packing up. Didn't take too long and then we were off. Stopped off at Julia's to unload their stuff from my car, then it was just Ash to drop off before home and a shower of epic proportions.

Was a pretty epic weekend and I'm looking forward to going again.

As always, more photos on my Facebook.

Futures
Was meant to post this the other day but never got around to it. Woops. Doesn't really matter but it means I now have 3 blogs to post so prepare for some spam.
I've made a new list of resolutions. It's got most of the old ones on but I've added a few more, and got rid of the silly "sub-resolutions" thing. What I want to talk about is one in particular which is now at the top of my list.
1. Stop worrying about the future and spend more time enjoying the present.
This is something I think everyone should be doing. By no means should you forget about the future completely, it's good to have a plan. But don't let it affect your enjoyment of the present.
See, I'm a worrier. I worry about everything, and I get very paranoid sometimes. But what brought on this sudden epiphany was I got all moody the other day and then realised just how stupid I was being.
I spent last weekend at Fairbridge Festival with Ash and some friends. During lunch on Saturday Ash and Julia were talking about her plans for next year after she finishes uni and how she wants to travel and work in other countries. The selfish prick in me didn't like this because I'll still be stuck at uni in Perth for another year. How disgusting is that? Instead of being excited for her and all the new experiences she could have, I was worried about me being stuck on my own.
That's not he only instance, it was just the catalyst for this post and the re-doing of my list. I spend a lot of time worrying about where my life is going, and in particular my relationship and how long-term it is. Hearing her talk about jet setting around the world next year made me feel like a have a time-limit, which is ridiculous. I shouldn't be worrying about what we're going to be doing in the future, I should be enjoying what we're doing now. I've made a promise to myself to do so.
Here's the rest of the list:
2. Get a better job
3. Exercise at least twice a week
4. Eat healthy food more often
5. Stop buying food (at uni etc) and take packed lunch instead
6. Try harder at uni
7. Stop swearing
8. Read more often
9. Draw more often
10. Take photos more often
11. Play guitar more often
12. Spend less time on the computer
13. Talk to Ash on the phone instead of MSN/Facebook
14. Write my goddamn story that’s been in my head since 2004
15. Get a tattoo

Baby I'm Gettin' Better
I have a cold :( Everyone seems to be sick at the moment and now I'm one of them. So very annoying but haven't got it as bad as some people. Using it to get out of work tomorrow though so there's a positive.
Anywhoo, anyone who hasn't yet should click on this and listen to Gyroscopes new album. It's fucking fantastic.
So in one of my units at uni we've just started working on our second project, which is all about packaging. I was doing some research and looking for examples the other day and I'm now OBSESSED! There's so much cool stuff out there, it's unbelievable. I've always written it off as a rather boring side of graphic design but it really isn't. I'm gonna post a few of my favourites but it's really hard to keep the list short. I thoroughly recommend doing a google search and checking out all the cool shit people have made.

Oh my God is that a juice box that looks like a banana?! Hell yeah it is! One of the coolest things I've ever seen. Some japanese designer made a series of juice boxes. This one is obviously for banana juice (wtf?) but he also did:
Strawberry juice

Kiwi juice

And one shaped like a tofu cube for soy milk.
I creamed my jeans so bad over these bottles. One of the straws is full of juice stuff and one is full of vodka. So when you drink from them they mix in your mouth (which I imagine would be awesome). They look so damn cool though, I wouldn't want to drink them.

This pretty much sums up my feelings on smoking. And looks cool :D

Another bottle, this one shaped like a lightbulb.

This is a goddamn lamp made out of paper that doubles as the packaging for the lamp components. Mind = BLOWN!

This is a sponge, that looks like cheese, and is packaged like cheese. It's adorable.

And again with the food packaging, these are Meat Shorts (who the fuck would wear these?).

Designer condoms! Well not really, but the packaging is cool. And why the hell has no-one thought to make condom packaging round before. The damn things are round, it makes perfect sense!

Anyway that's just a small sample. I hope it inspires you to go looking for more.

Stay with me bright-eyes
I'm a sap. A complete and utter hopeless romantic to the point where I can actually feel my testicles shrivelling up. It's ridiculous, and ever so embarrassing, and that annoys me.
Why should I be embarrassed? I don't like that a guy who goes out of his way to show someone he loves them is labelled as "whipped" and cops shit from his friends (albeit mainly from his male friends). Why shouldn't he do everything he can to make his girl happy? You see it all the time in movies: over the top romantic characters like "Prince Charming" who are presented to us as the perfect boyfriend, yet in real life would be seen as a wuss.
Obviously this isn't the case all the time, not every romantic guy gets picked on. I've been lucky enough to avoid it so far, all my friends are just as "whipped" as I am. But it's still common enough that I see it as a problem. Peer pressure and personal image concerns force us to be 'cool' and unconcerned when it comes to love. Wouldn't want to lost any street cred right? It's a load of bollocks and the real pansies are the people to embarrassed to show or say how they feel.
But enough about that. I'm feeling sappy, it's the reason I decided to right this blog, and I want to rave about it. I have a very idealised view of love that comes from watching to many movies and reading to many books. I want it to be perfect and everlasting, which of course it isn't, but it's still the greatest of emotions and something I can't imagine living without. There's so many different forms of love; family love, platonic love, love for a song or place or object, love for particular emotions and feelings, love for life itself, love between two people. I'm sure you've already worked out which one is my favourite.
That connection with someone that's so deep and so strong it takes your breath away is what makes us human. When everything you do is just to kill time until you see them again. When all the decisions you make, consciously and subconsciously, are for their benefit not for yours. It's what makes life worth living.
The worst thing you can do is not tell someone how you feel because you're scared, or embarrassed. I'm a total coward and terrified of rejection, as well as ridiculously shy, and I count my self incredibly fortunate to be where I am because my fear could so easily have ruined things, and I could be in a completely different position right now. Call me a hypocrite, but tell people you love them! Don't just wait for something to happen.
That's all I've got today. Been a while since I've blogged, hopefully won't be so long again.
Your homework: Tell someone you love them (relative, friend, crush, hobo on the street, anyone). To be completed before my next post.

Crimson and clover, over and over
Because of the overwhelming success of my Southbound blog (HA! I should be a comedian), I'm going to do another one about Soundwave.
To sum it up in one sentence: It was fucking hot.
Don't worry, I'll throw in some more details, I just wanted to get that out of the way otherwise half this post would be me bitching about the weather.
So, we got there at about 10 and the queue was already way long which was annoying. We lined up in the aforementioned heat and laughed at the emos/goths that insist on wearing all black winter clothes to an outdoor music festival on a 37 degree day. Getting in didn't take that long once they'd opened the gates but I still missed the start of You Me at Six's set because they started just after the gates opened. The rest of their set was awesome though and they played most of the songs I wanted to hear. Also, the stage they were on was under a big tent this year so we got shade which was awesome.
Shirtless bogan count: 0

After that we had a couple of hours to kill before the next band we wanted to see so we went exploring. The festival was set up all differently this year so I had to orientate myself. Rather annoying cause I couldn't walk around like I owned the place because I was just as lost as the newbies. We found the mister (any festival that doesn't have one of these isn't worth going to) and then bought Sombrero's :D Best purchase ever, unfortunately we both lost them later on. Also got free showbags full of stickers and free music downloads. Eventually we headed over to main stage to wait for Taking Back Sunday and get a good spot.
Shirtless bogan count: 2

We were early (quite a bit early actually) cause we wanted to get close to the stage so we watched the rest of The Creepshow's set. They were pretty awesome, a three-piece punk band with a female singer and a bass player that plays double-bass. When they finished and all their fans bailed we pushed forwards and ended up with a spot on the rail. Sunny Day Real Estate were on next on the stage next door and they provided some pleasant background music for our waiting. The singer has a really good voice. Several people complained about not being able to see past our giant sombrero's. We didn't care.
Shirtless bogan count: 2

When TBS were due to start the pushing started. Moshing's always good fun but not so much when your hip is being slammed into the fence. That coupled with the intense heat made it pretty deadly in there. We made it through the first song before we got security to lift us out and headed for a quiet spot off to the side. I feel like a bit of a hypocrite because I usually tease people who can't handle mosh pits but this was just ridiculous. TBS were good but seem to be losing their touch. Or maybe I'm just growing out of them, either way they weren't as good as when I saw them at Taste of Chaos back in 06. Left near the end of their set to go looking for precious precious water.
Shirtless bogan count: 3

After purchasing some good ol' overpriced soft drinks we sat in the tent by stage 3 and listened to the rest of Set Your Goals while looking through our showbags. I then braved the crowds at the merch tent to buy a t-shirt. I can't go to Soundwave without buying a Soundwave shirt. Then we sat in the stands and listened to Alexisonfire to kill time until Paramore started.
Shirtless bogan count: 6

Paramore. Were. Epic! So much fun to watch, Hayley Williams is awesome. Wish they'd played a longer set or done a sideshow. We were in the bloody sun again so it was way hot but we survived, stayed out of the thick crowds so we could breathe. Placebo were next up and were just as awesome as I thought they'd be. I went to their sideshow the next night which was even better but I wont go into that now. They played a good set but I was starving and needed to sit down for a while so we decided to leave and skip AFI so we could go get food. I did snap a photo of AFI's drum kit though cause it was awesome.

The rest of the day was pretty slow. We just wondered around while AFI were playing then ended up sitting on the hill in the bar area to wait for Jimmy Eat World. Had to put up with heaps of shit music though, with a screamo band to the right and Jane's Addiction (absolute shite) in front. Heard bits of All Time Low though which was cool. Saw some bogans wrestling with each other (no homo), and then saw another bogan try and pick a fight with a complete stranger because the stranger yelled at him when he pushed him into a pole. Dickhead. Got bored after a while and went in search of alcohol but there was a very limited selection and it was all way overpriced so we settled for water. Then went to get a spot for Jimmy.

Jimmy Eat World... Oh my God. So fucking good. They sound perfect live, played a really good setlist and we had a decent spot on the side. Definitely the highlight of my day. Was just so amazing to watch, I really hope they come back soon. After that there was just one more band to see but we had an hour to kill so we bought chupa chups and just sat for a while. We were both completely knackered so we decided to just watch half of the last band and then head home for a swim and a sleep. Organised a lift home and then went to see A Day to Remember.

The bastards before had started half an hour late so of course this meant ADTR had to start half an hour late even though they'd finished the set up and soundcheck. This meant that we only got to watch one song before our lift arrived. Was a good song though, and I didn't really mind since all I wanted to do at that point was pass out.

All in all it was wicked fun. Soundwave once again fails to disappoint and I'm already looking forward to next year. Once again there are more photos in my Facebook Album.

Paramore. Were. Epic! So much fun to watch, Hayley Williams is awesome. Wish they'd played a longer set or done a sideshow.
